Buildcon FC put up an impressive performance to put CAF Confederation Cup envoys Napsa Stars to the sword with an impressive 2-nil victory on Wednesday.
Team Kopala dominated the entire procession of the rescheduled Week 4 encounter at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where Conlyde Luchanga and Mwansa Nsofwa scored in the second half to hand their side the precious three points that sent them to the top of the MTN/FAZ Super League table.
The hosts dominated from the start with some fine passing play from the midfield engineered by the duo of Zimbabwean new recruit Praise Tonha and TP Mazembe loanee Najeeb Abbas who was voted man of the match.
After the first 45 minutes dominated by Team Kopala who also had some chances to go ahead with Luchanga and striking partner Emmanuel Okutu who saw their efforts fail to go past Pensioners veteran goalie Rabson Mucheleng’anga.
In the second half, Napsa returned to show some improvement with striker Mushili Chanda who was making his return to Levy to face his immediate former employers following his move to the capital city club, seeing his close range effort hitting the side netting.
The floodgates finally opened as the Napsa defence failed to clear their lines on a set-piece with the ball falling to substitute Kamal Jafaru who only needed to have the slightest of touches to put the ball in the back of the net but the Ghanaian fluffed the ball but it fortunately rolled into Luchanga’s path who made no mistake to score his first goal for the club in the 69th minute.
Tonha who put in an impressive, came close to capping off his impressive performance with a beautiful goal but his powerful long range effort rattled the cross bar.
The reborn Luchanga was showing no signs of stopping late on in the match as the former Chipolopolo wonderboy led a quick counter attack with a fine run on the left wing before crossing into the box to find substitute Mwansa Nsofwa who was able to hold off challenge from Luka Ng’uni to seal the win for the Friendly city club.
Wednesday’s victory which is their first over the Pensioners since 2017, sees Team Kopala shoot up to the top of the log with 8 points while Napsa remain winless after four games played with three points accumulated from three draws.
