Zambian super league teams in Continental Football recorded a flying start in their first legs in both Total CAF Champions league and CAF Confederations Cup encounters and the trend continued in the second leg yesterday after Zesco, Nkana, Green Buffaloes and Green Eagles stayed on top of their game.

Nkana celebrate..
Nkana FC Vs UD Songo

At home, Nkana kept it a red affair against the visitors as Beston Chambeshi’s zealous players recorded a goal in the first half through Kelvin Mulenga Kampamba in the two additional minutes of the first half.

Chisamba Lungu
In the second half, Chambeshi withdrew Jacob Ngulube for their new signing Chisamba Lungu in the 71st minute. The Kalampa Boys held on to their one nil lead but things seemed quite tense in defence as they got into 5 minutes of additional time. Nkana won 1-0 in full time and 3-1 on aggregate. The Kitwe giants advance to the next round of the league and will face Simba Sports Club of Tanzania.

Eagles players
Green Eagles Vs Young Buffaloes

Eagles were in action on Mavuso Stadium of Manzini in Eswatini and the Zambia National Service side had a very green first half. They scored their first goal in the 11th minute through Anos Tembo who benefitted from midfielders’ efforts in attacking from which he delivered a beautiful finish. With one striker on the scoresheet, Spencer Sautu doubled it in the 14th minute before the first goal dust could settle. It was seemingly a scoring competition between the two strikers as Sautu missed a good chance while Tembo utilised his 28th minute opportunity, thereby recording a brace in the first half. At half time, Eagles eased at a 3-0 first half triumph.

As the second half got underway, the home team Young Buffaloes redeemed itself with a goal in the 50th minute. It was from a spot taken by Buffaloes’ Dlamini Phiwa. In the 84th minute, Phiwa proved problematic to the Eagles defence and scored a brace. In full time Eagles won 3-2.

Green Buffaloes Vs El Merrieikh

A tough one in Sudan’s Juba stadium kicked off with hyped defending for both sides and little attacking. The two teams could not manage shots on target, let alone epic football action that would keep goalkeepers on their toes. It was a goalless draw by half time.

The second half, played mostly on the centre of the field was characterised by perpetual fouls, numerous throws and wide shots. It was a goalless draw for the two sides in full time and the combatants maintained their 2 nil aggregate lead.
