Orlando Pirates have reportedly received a multimillion-rand offer for striker Justin Shonga in this transfer window.
Shonga finished the 2018/19 season as one of the top performers for Pirates with 21 appearances in all the domestic competitions and eight goals he scored.
The Zambian was the team’s joint second top goalscorer with Vincent Pule on eight goals, behind PSL’s Footballer of the Season Thembinkosi Lorch, who finished the campaign with 13 goals.
According to reports from Egypt, Al Ahly have emerged as favourites to sign Shonga, who has been linked with an exit from the Buccaneers, in a big-money deal.
Shonga has been one of the sought-after players from the Absa Premiership, with various clubs from abroad linked with him, since the season ended.
Al Ahly have reportedly tabled a R15 million offer for the 22-year-old, who is currently leading in the votes to be in Pirates’ starting line-up for the Carling Black Label Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs on July 27.
As reported by Egyptian publication SuperKora, the Egyptian giants are believed to have agreed to meet Bucs’ asking price of $1 million (=/-R14.1m).
According to the publication, the forward has been offered $600 000 (=/-R8.4m) per year on a three-year deal loosely translated as $50,000 (K625,000) per month for 3years.
“Orlando Pirates officials have offered Shonga to Ahly for $1 million and $600,000 for the young player (Translated and edited),” the publication stated, in part.
Simba SC in Tanzania’s Premier League is one of the clubs that have been linked with Shonga in recent weeks.
