President Edgar Lungu
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he does not want to interfere with the running of Zambian football because the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is equal to the task.

The Head of State said Zambia had the capacity to train Zambian coaches who could run football in the country and do better than the foreign coaches.

Speaking at State House on Friday afternoon, President Lungu said he did not want to be seen to be interfering with the running of football noting that FAZ was more competent to discuss that.

“If you are going to ask for my honest personal opinion we can train Zambian [coaches] to run football for us and can do better than these foreigners we hire but I don’t want to be seen to be interfering, the association is more competent to discuss that,” he said.

President Lungu further questioned the term interference of running football by government.

” lately FAZ had trouble with the Zambia Revenue Authority over tax and they came running to the ministry and the minister joked that today you have come to talk to us, isn’t this interference? So there is a thin line between interference and participation,” he observed.

President Lungu, who is also FAZ patron said he will share the concerns with ministry of sports and FAZ without interfering with the running of football in the country.
