Chisamba Lungu
INJURED midfielder Chisamba Lungu is hopeful of a return to action after X-ray images shows he has crack on the sheen-bone in his left leg.

Lungu has been a subject of debate amongst supporters who accused coach Beston Chambeshi of harbouring ‘hatred’ against the 2012 AfCON winner after he rarely featured him since his move from Buildcon to Nkana at the start of the season.

Last week Chambeshi told a post-match press conference in Ghana that he did not feature the midfielder because he joined Nkana with an injury but still wild accusations against the coach raged on among the hard-to-please fans.

On Sunday against Zesco United, Chisamba was introduced at the start of the second half and lasted less than 60 seconds as he went down unchallenged clutching his left tibia and was stretchered off to a waiting ambulance that took him to Wusakili Mine Hospital.

“It’s the same injury I had at Buildcon, there is a crack at the same place. I am feeling much better, the pain is just around this area. I will be fine boss, I will be back,” Lungu told Nkana president Everisto Kabila who visited him in hospital on Monday evening.

Nkana chief executive officer Charles Chakatazya who was also on the bedside said doctors have given the player a six-month recovery period.

“They said they will remove the PoP after eight weeks, then he needs a total of six months to heal,” Chakatazya said.

Meanwhile, Kabila said the club would send the midfielder for specialist treatment at the Italian hospital in Lusaka to make sure that he is completely mended before returning to action.

“Look, we discussed this issue even before Sunday’s game, because I heard about it. So our plan was to take you to the Italian hospital to do more scans if you had said that you were still feeling uncomfortable. But don’t worry, we will still take you there and you will recover soon,” Kabila assured Lungu. “We have had players with injuries that we have managed well. Bruce Musakanya, Tony Odur, Diego Apanane had a similar injury and he was out for a long time but he came back fit. So we will make sure you are well. Don’t worry, you will recover.”
