ZESCO United have been dumped out of the CAF Champions League campaign following their 1-all draw against Etoile.
Lazarous Kambole scored his 7th gaol in the CAF Champions League as Zesco United drew 1 all with Tunisian giants Etoile Du Sahel at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium this afternoon in last last Group D fixture.
Kambole neatly tucked in the opening goal in the 8th minute and Zesco looked to be firmly in control but by halftime word came through that Premiero De Agosto were leading Mbabane Swallows 2-0 which meant that whatever Zesco would do the Ndola based giants would not go through.
Zesco were however given a glimmer of hope when Swallows pulled a goalback in the 58th minute through midfielder Quadri Aladeokun but Zesco would then concede through a set piece in the 70th minute as Etoile defender Rami Bedoui rose home to head.
Adams Zikiru and Davy Daka were introduced but it was too late as Etoile held on to a draw and finish Group D on 12 points while Premiero De Agosto beat Mbabane Swallows via a 2-1 scoreline as they qualify to the quarter finals on 9 points with Zesco ending on 6 points while Swallows end bottom of the table on 4 points.
The Ndola based giants go out at the Group stage for the first time in three years but Lazarous Kambole ends the competition on 7 goals which is the current joint topscorer position together with Difaa El Jadida’s former striker Hamid Ahaddad and TP Mazembe striker Ben Malango whose 87th minute penalty today helped the Congolese giants to a 1-1 draw at home against Difaa.
