Zesco United today beat Kitwe United 2-1 at Trade Fare Grounds in the last of the WEEK 33 matches.

The first half of the behind closed doors match was uneventfull but the match lit up in the second half when Kenyan striker Jesse Were scored in the 78th minute from a rebound after an initial penalty save from Kitwe United goalkeeper Siame.

Were added the second in the 91st minute when he met an intelligent pass from Enock Sabumukama with a neat finish and marked his return back from National team duty with a brace.

United then got a penalty of their own as Shemmy Mayembe was adjudged to have pulled Jimmy Ndhlovu down who then dusted himself off to put the ball past Jacob Banda and bring the score down to 2-1.

Zega had a near scare in the last minute as the Chingalika Boys almost equalised but Ndhlovu’s shot went over which happened to be the last kick of the game as Stanley Hachiwa blew the final whistle and Zega breathed a sigh of relief.

Zesco United now move to 73 points and are 8 points ahead of second placed Nkana with 5 games to go.
