2007 CAF young player of the year, Clifford Mulenga has told agents to stop being selfish and put players interest first. Mulenga told kick off magazine that agents need to be more of father figures in a players life.
The Jomo Cosmos winger goes on to say if he had received proper guidance he would be competing with Messi and Ronaldo for the best player in the world.
“I am not out to blame anyone that managed or was around me, but I feel like people were just excited with me playing football, scoring goals and dribbling people. They forgot that there was something bigger than that. Had I gotten proper guidance I would be competing with Messi and Ronaldo. I am not bragging, but I know that God blessed me with great talent many people would die to have,” Mulenga said
Well I also agree and alot needs to be done about selfish agents . They are alot of people just looking to make a quick buck and what better way than being an agent.
But then again players need to be careful and also employ financial managers or personal managers to deal with such stuff because football is big business.
Now to what I want to talk about yes agents may be problems but when most players make a bit of money they are uncontrollable. They don’t take advise from anyone , I have witnessed this first hand and Clifford is one of those players with a very poor attitude . He is realising a bit too late that’s the problem.
Players need to change their attitude also and listen more not to everyone ofcourse just a select few who can help and guide you preferably professional people. Employ personal and financial managers .
